I admit that I am nervous about this placement. One of the reasons for this is because I will be in a new environment with people I have never met before. Two because placements in schools are very important, they are not only to help develop you as a teacher but the teachers at the school will be watching you and evaluating you as a teacher. Three because I will be in a grade 6 classroom and I have very little experience with grade 6s.
When I look at my reasons for being nervous I think that they are perfectly justifiable but still they will be easily overcome-or so I think. Remember I say to myself 'just be yourself, don't act stupid!'. I will be fine.
I have already lead small groups of students in numeracy and literacy activities at the local primary school. I have also helped students one-on-one so the requirements of this placement should not be anything new to me.
In a way I am glad that I am in a grade 6 class because I will be able to gain more experience in an area that I am lacking. When I go to the local primary school I love being in the younger year levels, something that started last year after spending the 3 weeks before uni started, assisting in the prep classroom.
Overall I am looking forward to my placement and I will post more about it later. If you are a student teacher feel free to comment about your on placements or if you are a teacher about the student teachers you have had in your class or your own experience as a student teacher.
I thought that I would as a parting note link this video that I found. It is the first part of a web series called 'Student Teacher'. It is about a student teacher who goes back to his old high school.
